Just Over The Rainbow! (A Tribute to Becky Newman)

The past several days have been anything but pleasant. Last Wednesday night our church prayer chain called saying Becky Newman had been taken to the hospital and was un-responsive. A feeling of dread overwhelmed me.

Let me tell you a little about Becky. First of all she was Robin and Missy?s mom, and step-mom to Mamie and Shane. I know I don?t have to tell you this Robin and Missy, but your mom loved you with everything she had, mind, body and soul. Robin, on your wedding day to Jackie your mom said this to me, ?I can die happy now knowing my Robin is married to the man she loves.?

Becky was Nana to Jade, Logan, Emily, Lakyn, and Dylan, sister to Ivan, Vivian and Sherry, and wife to Rick. I loved watching the video of her with all of you. There is no doubt about the way she felt about you all! Emily I know you?ll miss your nite, nite?s from Nana on facebook.

Becky was a friend to everyone, and a true friend to me. Even though we fell out of touch from time to time, I could always depend on Becky to be the same loving friend today, tomorrow and always, no matter how long it had been since we?d last spoken.

My friend Becky, a lady who helped me through so many difficult times as a young wife and soon to be mother. We worked together in the late 70?s. I told her my worries and she told me hers. If there was ever a friend who I truly believed loved me it was Becky. Every time we ran into each other through the years we always felt the bond. We were two young women sharing our hearts desires and struggles. You never forget someone you?ve cried and shared your dreams with.

Becky was only 59 years old! One minute she was sitting in her recliner, the next she was gone. A simple trip to the bathroom and Becky was no more. No more on earth that is! Now she?s crossed the river and is resting on another shore. Still smiling, still hugging, still laughing and for sure still loving. Now Becky is not only known as mom, nana, sister, wife?. or friend. Now she is known as a child of God. I can just see her sitting at the feet of The Father, as He lovingly strokes her hair. No stress, no worries? nothing more to be nervous about? no tears.

We?ll miss you my dear friend, but I?ll just think of it as a time when we haven?t seen each other for a while, a time when you go your way and I go mine, but you can bet I?ll see you one day soon? somewhere just over the rainbow.

Sarah,

Thank you for putting into words what most of us are feeling about Becky. She smiled and laughed all the time but most of all she loved life and deeply loved her family. I know your words will comfort them and touch their hearts in the weeks and months to come.
